Plaxsoon Romantic Venice (HG1027) is a modular-style building made from 2158 pieces. Here is my full review.

When I go brick shopping, I usually do it directly at Chinese shops like Yourwoob or Barweer, or on AliExpress.

However, lately, I’ve been finding things on Amazon more often. This time, too.

Plaxsoon Romantic Venice Review

I discovered an intriguing, previously unseen set called Plaxsoon Romantic Venice. I bought it myself for around 45€ from Amazon.de. The delivery time was speedy, and I received it in just one day. It’s faster than AliExpress, that’s for sure.

The set is delivered in a solid, crammed box with illustrations of the set printed on both sides. The box has a high-quality feel and looks very nice. It’s unknown whether Plaxsoon is a new brand or simply a rebranding and dropshipping operation, as is often the case on Amazon.

Unboxing

Once unpacked, you can find some classic plastic bags divided into nine steps for building, along with the instructions. A part separator in the typical orange Danish company color wasn’t included. Well, you should have enough of those by now.

There were two surprises, though. Two LED kits are included to illuminate the set.

Instruction

Let’s take a look at the Plaxsoon Romantic Venice set instruction. It consists of 203 pages with illustrations of excellent quality. The colors are visible, and everything that is built is grayed out.

instructions

The small number of parts per step makes the set easy to build for children and those less experienced in the brick building world.

Bag 1+2+3

In the first three bags, you build the middle section of the Venetian scenery. It consists of three elements: a very charming yellow house, the water area, and a classic Venetian bridge.

The water consists of many transparent blue tiles. However, one of the tiles was incorrectly delivered. Instead of a necessary five-stud tile, I got one with six studs.

It features some nice details, such as Venetian blinds in an Italian red, white, and green color scheme, a seagull, and a gondola. However, the matching gondola operator as a minifigure is missing.

Step 1 final

Turn the first element of our modular scenery, and you’ll quickly see that the buildings are very narrow. LEGO sets are often criticized for being overly narrow. That’s true, but this set shows that it can be even more so.

In the basement is a small restaurant that could only fit a minifigure. The apartment on the first floor is just as small, and at the very top, there’s a sort of roof terrace with a grill.

Step 1 Final backside

It’s very positive so far that the quality of the bricks and parts is excellent, and the fact that everything is printed.

Bag 4 + 5

Bags 4 and 5 of our Plaxsoon Romantic Venice set are awaiting you. These will create the second building in the middle area, which is entirely in blue. Next to the house, the promenade is being built, and along the water, everything is made of tiles.

Step 5 Blue House

The roof, which is made entirely of one-round bricks, is a bit fiddly to build. I think it fits the setting very well and reflects the southern flair, but it was a bit of a pain to make.

The sign above the entrance, which is also printed, tells us what this house is used for. Yes, a flower shop. It would be a big surprise if a Chinese set weren’t a flower shop.

Step 5 roof

In the same step, you also install the first LED construction in the basement area. The battery is hidden under the house. The string of lights isn’t as fine as the one from Lumibricks (formerly Funwhole), but it’s nice to have one.

Inside the blue house, you can see various plants as well as a white cat. A lovely detail can be found on the roof. A mouse is causing trouble here, but it’s lured by a piece of cheese by the house owners. Be careful, it’s a trap.

Step 5 Blue House

There is also a yellow bicycle that you can put in front of the door. You can connect the two houses using simple black pins, and the result is visible in the two attached pictures. So far, it is a lovely building experience.

Bag 6 + 7 + 8

Then we continue with the construction of the Plaxsoon Romantic Venice set and arrive at the large tower. The structure stretches across three bags (6, 7, and 8).

Step 6 7 8

The interior of the tower is unspectacular and somewhat empty. However, there are a few highlights.

For example, the tower’s foundation is integrated with a tree, which adds a beautiful, natural touch. Then, on the second floor, it has three printed clocks that can be manually rotated thanks to a simple technical construction.

Just above the clocks, you can also see a bell in flat gold but without a function.

Steps 6 7 8

The tower’s green roof is also beautifully executed. Only the four panels you have to build for it are a bit repetitive.

It uses a simple but neat clamp system to connect to the buildings. This is easy to do. However, be careful when transporting the set. The claps do not hold the buildings firmly.

Step 6 7 8

Bag 9

This brings us to the last bag (9) of the Plaxsoon Romantic Venice set. Here we build another tower, this time in a darker orange tone, which is placed on the right side.

The building, water, the rest of the promenade, and some green elements are on the agenda here. This was done quickly. The roof, which is made of 1×1 round bricks, took a little longer to complete.

Once it’s up, it looks very nice and hey, there is also a dog that brings some life into the building.

Step 4 Front

A nice detail here on the roof. Not a mouse, but a rat with a sack containing unknown contents.

In this ninth and final construction phase, the two LED strips are also installed. Compared to the LEDs in the Lumibricks sets, these are very thick and reminiscent of old-school technology.

Step 9 backside

The cable runs through the entire set, which doesn’t make it look particularly charming. But at least there is an LED system.

Plaxsoon Romantic Venice review (Set HG1027)(2158 pcs)

Plaxsoon Romantic Venice (HG1027) review

Plaxsoon has landed a truly positive surprise with the Romantic Venice set. For around 50€, you get a beautifully designed Venetian scene with long-lasting building fun, excellent brick quality, and numerous small details.

The icing on the cake is two LED strips and prints instead of stickers. There are minor criticisms, like a wrong part in my set or the fiddly part of building the roofs.

One can also be critical of the depth of the sets, but I suppose it is designed in such a way that it focuses on the scenery rather than the buildings themselves. All in all, hats off to Plaxsoon for such a lovely set.
